Description

Light plays a major role in enhancing images, drawing the viewer in to another world, another time and another place.

When starting out, Aveline was fascinated by how artists that she admired used light so effectively, creating stunning artwork. However, trying to figure it out on her own was a long, slow process, having to scour the internet and dig through books. But, good news!—you don’t have to go through all that. Aveline breaks down all the essential principles of light right here and teaches you hands-on techniques to implement them into your digital illustrations.

In this course, she will guide you step by step in creating the same illustration four times—each time using a different kind of lighting. Intrigued? Well, that’s just the summary!

For Aveline, color and light are inseparable—a language that contains as many messages as its various shades. You can tell so much about a character and overall mood from these two elements.

In this lesson, Aveline demonstrates this with examples, discussing the meaning of color and how to make good color choices in your artwork.

I took the 21 draw Masterclass annual membership just for this course. I've taken a few other online courses on light and rendering before but I found Aveline's instruction to be quick, to the point, simple, and her style is not boring or repetitive. Also her art is just a pure delight to watch. Wil

Lovely presenter with a colourful style, some really useful tips. The subtitles can be quite hilarious - I guess they are an automated process - I spent a while looking for the "cushion bar" until I went back and re-watched and realised it had translated "gaussian blur". Great class, highly recommen

Haha :) thanks for the great review Jane! And thank you for pointing out the "cushion bar" mistake :) You're absolutely right, it should be "gaussian blur". The subtitles have been updated now :)

This is the absolute best tutorial for Procreate that I have watched, and I own about 10 Procreate classes. I am a picture book author and illustrator, but I studied before most people knew about computers. I am struggling to catch up with digital art, and this class is the first one that has helped

me understand how to create light and shade in Procreate. Because Aveline does not teach the Procreate interface, I call this an Intermediate Level Course. I am not complaining. Other classes teach Basics. This class exceeds in its ability to go beyond the Basics.

I found this a truly amazing tutorial. She's so engaging and I can't believe how much I’ve learned! I've loved her work for a long time now and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to show me about lighting and shading. This has completely changed the way I begin a digital illustration and I’m so glad

. I also learned a heap of shortcuts I never knew about. 😂 (I think this may be a little tough for a beginner though)
